He has asserted his clean record about the indictments

Previous FBI chief James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to congressional representatives and impeding a lawmaking procedure.

The former director's lawyer filed the plea representing him in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.

The defense lawyer announced he would attempt to have the proceedings terminated for multiple factors including that his client, a critic of Donald Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was indicted shortly after the former president pushed his attorney general to take action against him.

Judicial Process

At the proceedings on Wednesday, the defense counsel the legal representative told the judge they planned to file various legal requests to dismiss the legal matter before a legal hearing, stating the legal action was vindictive and that a federal prosecutor was improperly appointed to assume control of the case.

James Comey's proceedings was initially overseen by the original attorney, who left his position under influence from the former president after his examination into another rival - NY AG Letitia James - did not succeed to file indictments.

Courtroom Atmosphere

The former director appeared in optimistic frame of mind as he entered the courtroom on mid-week, conversing with his legal team and making jokes. He was supported by his spouse, Mrs Failor and child his daughter, a government attorney who the previous administration dismissed.

After listening to the magistrate recite his rights and the pair of allegations against him in legal proceedings on Wednesday, the defendant was asked if he grasped the accusations.

"I do your honour. Thank you," he told the judge.

Historical Information

James Comey was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2013 to 2017 and was dismissed about four months into Donald Trump's initial presidency as commander-in-chief. At the period, he was leading an examination into Russian election interference and whether there were any connections between Russia and the election effort.

Throughout his leadership, the director caused a backlash from liberal politicians when he announced just days before the national vote that he was investigating presidential nominee the candidate's use of a private email server. Legal actions against Hillary Clinton were never brought, causing negative feedback from Republicans as well.

Ongoing Accusations

The federal government claim James Comey lied to the legislature during a legislative proceeding in recent years when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the election interference investigation. They allege he provided false information to the legislative body by stating he had not approved an individual at the FBI to disclose to news outlets data about the agency probes.

Legal representatives also allege Mr Comey of "improperly attempting to influence, block and delay" the committee by making false statements to it.

Public Statements

Through a recording the former director posted to his Instagram after he was accused, he said he was not guilty and alleged Trump of acting like a "tyrant".

"Our household have been aware for considerable time that there are consequences to opposing Mr Trump," he commented. "We will not live on our kneeling."
"I have done nothing wrong," he added. "So let's have a trial."

The accusations against Mr Comey came after Donald Trump shared on social media calling for his top legal official, Ms Bondi, prosecute the former director and additional individuals.
